My New Friends

So Ann Arbor is pretty wildlife friendly, what with all the trees and such... And I like the critters... so as I was walking home one day last week, and walked past some big oaks, I saw these groovy, furry-hatted acorns (it's possible that isn't really the species name) and thought... HEY, the squirrels by MY house would like those... so I picked up a few.

I put them on our front porch and before dinner (within half an hour) they were gone...

So the next day I got more furry-hatted acorns and some walnuts... Yup... gone...

I was so pleased with myself, making friends with our squirrels... but I hadn't seen one TAKING them yet...

Well this weekend is really nice, temperature wise—open doors and windows nice, so FINALLY, I spotted one of my new friends in action.

What do you know... not a squirrel...

This pleases me... not that I don't like the squirrels (obviously, I like them.. I thought I was bringing them presents) But I love those little chipmunks... they are so darned cute...

So that's what I got today... Chipmunks...

Aren't they cute!?  (these aren't mine--I am inept with a camera, plus I had to give up the batteries in mine for hubby's remote last night)

Have a great Saturday!

Hart, that's really thoughtful of you to bring your friends some funky nuts. Maybe they use the tops for Brillo pads...?

Hey Tartlette - those must be Canadian chipmunks, because it is Thanksgiving here this weekend and they're definitely getting a feast. You are one cute Tartlette!

Gorgeous chipmunks. I used to have squirrels milling around by my window. Now I'm fully ensconced in an urban dystopia, so all I get are bronchitic pigeons.

They look so cute and cheeky when they fill up their cheeks and make them all chubby.

It's 84 here in WI today - amazing. And we have lots of wildlife here, too, but I'm currently against all rodent-types. We have pocket gophers creating mounds ALL OVER my front yard. >:(

Oh my goodness, I so miss my little chipmunks. How cute are they? I've got possums now and they clunk on the roof sounding more like an alien invasion than a possum and sorry but they are NOT cute!
Once a North American, always a North American and I miss the critters that go with all that. I really do!!
So cute. Thanks for sharing them with us, but boy am I homesick!

Chipmunks are way better than squirrels any day. It's so cute that you brought them treats!

Chipmunks are the best! I love it when they come around! My husband is like a chipmunk magnet. They just walk right up to him and he has all these pictures taken when he was little, and they're all over him, just jumped right on him. He was in Canada, I think. Animal magnetism.

Chipmunks were always present on the campus where I went to college. They have a special place in my heart.

Good for you in being kind to squirrels. Never understood the hate many have for them and the extremes people go to keep them off their feeders. They are at least as interesting as birds in my opinion!
