Wonky Me

So I am over at Burrowers, Books and Balderdash today talking about how I'm taking over the world, so that is my REAL blog, but I thought I'd share a few random quirks here...

Breaking the Ice

While I want it to warm up more than ANYTHING, I sort of love the days that are half melty, half below freezing. Know why? I walk along the sidewalk or edge of the street SMASHING the ice that has nothing under it anymore. It's this weird power trip (and I love the sound when it's thin ice). It's like I am personally conquering winter and bringing spring on.

Sometimes I will get on a sidewalk where I will notice that out there SOMEWHERE, I have kindred spirits in this domain.

Eating Grapes

I'm totally laid back, right? Very few things I'm picky about. I'm married to Mr. Pickypants (and YES, he wears pants—grrrrrr!) But when it comes to eating grapes, we swap roles. I think a person should take off the part of the stem and eat ALL those, then take a new one. He just picks one grape at a time from the total stalk. MAKES ME NUTS! (Son has picked up my habit, the daughter his)

Real Life

So I may have to go under soon. You heard me... my boss wants to write a GRANT. As early as yesterday I had to work ALL DAY at work... *cough* But if I get crabby in the next few weeks, this might be why, and you have been warned. On the POSITIVE side, though, I have a conference in Austin in May. I get to meet up with my FABULOUS writing buddy Stacy (who got her second novella contract within weeks of her first... she has fired out into the writing world fast, after years of perfecting craft...) you'll hear more about her... provided Austin survives the two of us in the same city... (anyone else in the Austin area, give a shout—maybe we can coordinate)

And 19 days to the next ABNA cut... anyone who wants to swim in pudding while we wait, head on over to the BB&;B link at the top...

And it's Thursday. You know what THAT means!

I thought everyone knew that grapes are eaten one at a time...

You are a picky grape eater!

So funny, I love that you stomp thin ice and pretend to conquer winter. So. Cute. I don't have a "real" winter, and I'm overly fine with that but on occasion I do miss ice, not snow, ice. I abruptly get over the craving as soon as I open my freezer. ;) Grapes are eaten one at a time...right?

Gae-you need to get around more. I know. It's not what your mother would say, but it's fun! teehee (glad I could tempt you out!)

Ted-I EAT them one at a time, but TAKE a stem of them. If you eat from all over the whole stalk it just looks sloppy!

Diane-I know, right?!

Erica-I'd love to live somewhere that had maybe 2 weeks of winter... that is the dose I'd like. But A LOT those two weeks... snow days, fort building, and then the ice melty thing!

Tart, crabby? Never!

Okay, you just make me laugh, and that's a good thing. Thanks for cheering up my otherwise blah morning.

Sounds like you've got a lot going on! I eat grapes like your husband, sorry, can we still be friends?

I have so much catching up to do! Your trip to Austin sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun. I'm sorry to hear about that grant. That work thing gets in the way, doesn't it?

Hart Johnson said...

Oh, Alex, believe me. I get crabby now and then (though not that often)

Vicki, YAY! Happy to be of service!

Karen, of COURSE we can, but if we eat grapes together, we should probably each have our own bowls.

Lisa-yeah--VERY hard on my blog hopping when I am immersed. I write and post from home, but I do a significant portion of my visiting when I need a break at work... Grants mean there isn't time for breaks.

We all need to have a moment of feeling like we are in control conquering the ice is an interesting way to accomplish this.

Now I have to pay attention to the way I (and others) eat grapes.

Breaking ice *rocks*! I love it.

I'm amazed you keep up your blog so spectacularly well under any circumstances.

Have a blast in Austin.

BOOO WORK! Yeay winter SMASHING!! I'm on your hubs grape team, but I'm picky about how the grapes come off the stalk. Like, it has to pull out that little pointy end from out of the grape...shutting up. That sounds weirder than I meant it...

Hart Johnson said...

Holly--it keeps me half way content, at least, in these months of being so sick of winter...

Talli-I know, right?!

Helena-thank you! I love the blogging. it is like therapy... though maybe I shouldn't say that or y'all will want to charge me for it.

Colene *snort* Yeah, I am not a fan of that part--I think though, because it is a good predictor of it they are ripe (versus over ripe)

I like to freeze my grapes, and in order to fit them in the baggies, you have to section them off first. So I guess that makes us alike--? ;p

I think I'll share your ice power-trippin once we're in the land of freezing cold...Have fun in Austin. It's one of the few places in Texas that's green~ :o) <3

You know, sometimes I eat grapes one way, sometimes the other (wondering now what this means about me!) Glad you'll have a nice trip to TX with Stacy and fingers crossed for ABNA.

I am SUCH a kindred in the smashing ice department. That is so my thing!

As for being swamped -- oops, just sent you a 3-way request. Argh. Hope you can manage...

Hey, I am a one grape at a time kinda guy too. He sounds pretty fippin' awesome. Especially when it comes to his fruit eating habits.

I am very picky about how I eat grapes too. I demand that they are fed to me by a tanned Adonis by the pool.

I wish everyday were Naked Thursday! The splinters in my ass are a small price to pay for freedom on a public park bench. I love to people watch. It was a wonderful day.
