Last year The Burrow, my writer's group, decided that November sort of sucked as the chosen month for a WriMo... Part of us are teachers, part are students, and part work retail... Several of us are also MOMS... November just has a lot of demands, so we decided on a Do-Over... In June...
We were amazed at the response. We hadn't been all that 'out there' at that point. My own blog was less than a year old and I think I had maybe 150 followers. I know my counter registered 200 hits a day on average (I average about 3 times that now and have MORE than 3 times the followers) But besides that, after BuNoWriMo, we launched our group blog...
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Whatever the case... we invited all of you to join us. We held the WriMo on Facebook because our extensive research led us to know to participate, people would have to join SOMETHING, and most people had a Facebook account already, so joining a group was just a click.
And we had 108 people join! It was a bit baffling, really...
But this year, we are hoping for even bigger...
So what IS BuNoWriMo? The Burrow Novel Writing Month.
When: The 30 days in June.
What: Write at least 50,000 words in the 30 days of June.
How: Very similar rules as NaNoWriMo... The traditional version means you can't start until June 1 and you write 'a whole book' (50,000 words worth anyway) in the month, but like NaNoWriMo, rebels are welcome... rebels would be people who continue on an already started WiP, people who write collections of shorts or non-fiction, people who want to set their OWN rules... It really just just a support system for a fast paced writing month.
What we DISCOURAGE is editing as you go. The point of writing fast is to let go of that inner editor so you can get the WORK done. Rewriting can come LATER.
(thank you, Rosie, for sending this!) |
But for NOW: tie up those loose ends! Do whatever outlining or character sketching you like to accomplish pre-writing... get that brain going on your novel idea...
And resign yourself to the fact that when I am part of the planning committee, you will often hear you need to just get naked...
I love yibus!

I am so up for this, but if I do it I'll probably be a rebel (oh the irony, I have never been a rebel in my life) and finish the last 50,000 words of a 120,000 first draft. That would be the most useful thing I could do with the time. Great idea.
I would SO love to join, but I've got too much going on this year. I've never tried NaNo, either, so am hankering to give it a shot. Next year! Hold me to it for next year!!! :o) xoxox
loved getting to know you during this challenge.. and it is a great idea.. to follow people under you.. if we do it next year... I will look into bunowrimo... thanks..
I am very short and need to be more naked!!
:-)
Yay for your nano-ing month in June to come!!!!
And congratulations with finishing the Challenge with such panache too! Take care
x
Ohhhhh...this sounds fun. November is a tough month for sure.
I hope I can jump in and try this in June with you! If my edits are done by then I'd love to start a new book! Woot!!
Christine-YAY! I'm so glad you want to join us!
Jessica-I'm holding you to that!
Lisa-I hope you WILL join us! If not this year, next!
Jenny-thank you! Does that mean you're in?
Lynn-YAY! I hope you get your edits done so you can!
Just get naked, that's great!
I'm not sure if I could write more than I already am but will give it a shot. I have to do the math....can I somehow exclude weekends? :)
At least you're giving everyone a month to recover from the Challenge!
And I used your suggestion for next year in my reflection post - and everyone seems to think it's a great idea.
What a great idea! I'll see if I can be ready by then!
I totally want to do this-- but I fly to London for two weeks this June.
I actually could really use the incentive. I have 3 WIPS-- one is "done" -whatever that means- but my new one needs to just get puked out!
Algenla-Naked is ALWAYS the best solution!
Johanna-give it a try! You can totally skip weekends if that is your schedule. It is normally 1667 words a day. 50K in 22 days is 2,272--so MORE, but if you really stick to it, it's not horrible. I generally front load to accomodate emergencies...
Alex-I should probably see what suggestion that was!? You didn't post a nake picture, did you? *running over there now*
Colene-I hope you can!
Jo-if you want, you can set up an alternate timeline--start early or end late. The shared adrenaline really is great!
June is a way better month than November! I don't have a Facebook account and I don't think I'm ready for one, so I'll join you in spirit. Will you have updates here? On the sidebar?
This would be very cool but probably exhausting! I'll have to think about it :o)
Holly-I will definitely be talking about it here--I suspect all the Burrowers will. You COULD open a facebook under a fake name just for the occasion... *shifty* However you want to do it though, we'd love to have you.
DU-writing a book in a month can be a little that way, but there is a lot of adrenaline involved that helps. I hope you'll join us!
I have this strange feeling in the pit of my stomach and also have no idea what I am getting myself into now! Guess getting naked is no big deal for me, just give me a hand up from the ground when I fall down,Ok?
oh, MAN! If my life wasn't so crazy right now, I'd totally sign up for this. As it is, looks like I"ll be MOVING in June...
I'd much rather be writing~ <3
I think I may just have to sign up for this! I will be doing NaNo as well, but I could use this as a chance to write up another of my novels I've never got very far with. Yes, I have a few chapters written already, but I'll possibly start fresh anyway. ;)
You know me, I am usually up for anything, but not this soon after the A-Z... It nearly killed me.
I have edits on book two and queries on book I, so sorry Hart, not this year...
Good luck to you and the others.
Michael
Hmm. While November's no worse than any other month for me, June might be an interesting month for a second shot. I've a couple projects need tied up by October, so finishing a novel in June would be about perfect, to allow for edits.
We shall see, good lady!
Also, congrats on finishing the A-Z challenge. I'd've died, methinks.
Cheers!
YAY! Looks like a couple takers!!!
Siv-intimidating, but worth it! I hope you'll join!
Leigh-yeah, I get the incomatibility with moving!
Trish-excellent! And you are okay as a rebel, so long as you have 50K left to write!
Michael-Oh, come on... one teensy tinesy WriMo?
Simon-HOT! I'm glad this works for you!
A fake name? Do they allow that.
Honestly, I'm not ready to take on another social media right now. I'm still getting the hang of blogging, :) but...
Holly-they need a real EMAIL, but they don't care what your NAME is--and you can set privacy settings so no one can see anything unless you 'friend them' or join their group, so you (under your fake name) could be invisible except where you are willing to be seen.
I just signed up and can't wait to get started. This will be my first WriMo so I'm very excited! :D
Thanks for this opportunity!
yay! I'm so in.. again..
going to be a rebel and finish what I started last time lol
I saw this while visiting Trisha's blog. It sounds so awesome I'm entering. I think it will be a great way to start on a novel idea I came up recently. Also joined on facebook and put image on my blog Queendsheena.
