Chinchilla, Cthulu & Carol's Compass

[Recall the theme, if you will: an animal, an amusement and an author/book]

Chinchillas

I had a tough time here... I'm really a cat person. But I find Chinchillas fascinating. My best friend housesat one once... she thought it was sick, as it just sat there all day... then her dad came to stay for the weekend... in the chinchilla's room... and she learned they really are just nocturnal...

They are the size of a smallish rabbit, and SUPER soft like that, but with curly tails and mousy ears...

Cthulu

Oh scary monster, how I love you... especially when somebody makes mockery of your badassness and turns you into a cute little thing...

I am a huge fan of HP Lovecraft... not his writing so much—he reads like a clinician—but his imagination was FABULOUS. He is the granddaddy of modern horror and one of his most frightening creations is the great sea monster... head of a squid, but with a man-like torso, claws and wings. EEEEEEEK!

But then I really love this version even better...

Or this...

It's just the way I roll... delicious contradictions...

And FINALLY... Yesterday was a special book release, but I'm talking about it TODAY, because Both CAROL and COMPASS start with C!!! I read Carol's first book, IN NAME ONLY, and it was fabulous, I look forward to this one!

SOLOMAN'S COMPASS by Carol Kilgore

Full Blurb and Bio

A missing belt—her uncle’s prized possession. The lure of buried treasure. And a sexy former SEAL who makes U.S. Coast Guard Commander Taylor Campbell crazy. What more could any woman want. Right?

Taylor is in Rock Harbor, Texas, on a quest to unearth her uncle’s treasure—a journey far outside the realm of her real life. There’s one glitch. Taylor's certain the buried treasure was all in Uncle Randy's dementia-riddled mind. Now he’s dead.

Former SEAL Jake Solomon is in Rock Harbor under false pretenses to protect Taylor from the fate that befell her uncle and the other members of a tight circle of Coast Guardsmen called the Compass Points who served together on Point boats in Vietnam.

Jake is definitely not supposed to become involved with Taylor. That was his first mistake. Taylor is attracted to Jake as well, but she refuses to wait for him to locate the killer when she knows her plan will force her uncle’s murderer into action.

But the killer's actions are just what Jake is afraid of.

SOLOMON’S COMPASS is available at Amazon in paperback and Kindle.

Carol writes a blend of mystery, suspense, and romance she calls Crime Fiction with a Kiss. Always at least one crime; always a love story. You can find her here:

Congratulations to Carol!

That Cthulu is scary. I like the pink tee shirt version. :)

I never got the desire to have pets that are nocturnal. I know someone who has Sugar Fliers - they act like circus performers all night!
Yay for Carol - this looks to be a good book...

Ooh, nice... Going to my "to read" list.

BTW, Tami, I was just visiting Helena's blog and she had a promo of your BB book :-D That sounds interesting too. :-)
I'm so p'd at Amazon who doesn't approve Paypal payments :-( All these nice books my friends write that I can't read, because I can't get my greedy hands on them. Grr.

Anyway, I had a book giveaway in my blog, and as there was only 16 participants, I decided to send everyone something... and I thought of you and Helena, and how wonderful you have been to me, and I want to add you to that list, so could you, please, send me your address?
I mean, it's nothing big, but it's always nice to have letters, right?

I would love to hold a chinchilla, but not that monster.

I once saw a Cthulu knitting pattern. As for chinchillas, my daughter is obsessed - OBSESSED I SAY. They are the dearest, softest things, but for the moment the toy version will have to suffice.

As for the book - OOOOOOOH. That looks really fab. She had me at Compass.

Nice C post. Cute critter, scary monster, and a good book. What more could one want? :)

I bought my son a plush Cthulhu when he was still a toddler. it was the first mystical being he could name!

Ha! That t-shirt is great. Chinchillas look super adorable. It'd be interesting to have one, but I don't know if I am that brave. Awesome post!

That chinchilla looks so cuddly! :D Though why someone would want a nocturnal pet is a bit beyond me. Unless they suffered from insomnia... :)

Bunny rat! LOL We'd looked into Chinchillas (and got guinea pigs instead) and every time I looked at them, i thought they looked like a cross between a bunny and a rat (so the name stuck). :)

The Cthulu is scary. I would use it if I wrote horror. It reminds me a little of a critter I invented for one of my books.

Solomon's Compass is on my reading list too. Congrats, Carol!

Chinchillas are super soft, aren't they? But like Aimme says above, they do look like a cross between a bunny and a rodent. And the green squid monster is cute, not so much the painting.

Yeah for Carol!
Lovecraft wrote some powerful stuff.

I'll take the sweet image on the pink tee :)

And thank you for including Solomon's Compass on your C Day :) Much appreciated!

Have you noticed that the cute monster on the T-shirt looks like 'Scrubbin' bubbles'? Or that Davy Jones from the Pirates of the Caribbean series appears to have been based on that? The book sounds fab!

Congrats to Carol. Sounds like a grand novel! The Nameless Ones in my Victor Standish series are my salute to Lovecraft. I put their "Mother" (She Who Breeds) in his latest THREE SPIRIT KNIGHT.

GIL'S ALL FRIGHT DINER is a comedic Lovecraftian turn of prose. :-)

I don't think that I have ever petted a Chinchilla. Too cute ... I enjoyed catching up on your A-Z posts, Hart!
