The Other Ones

Erm... by that I mean the NON-Writing Resolutions...

FITNESS

Okay, so I say this every year, but this is finally a matter of PAIN issues, and I'd rather be done with it. YES, I should weigh less and would LOVE to have a goal of Goddess Like Hotness—like this Playboy centerfold... What I REALLY want? No back pain. This requires a more reasonable weight... it also requires STRETCHING which I am woefully bad at... core strengthening (which I neglect horribly) and possibly more sex (which I promise to work on right away). But SPECIFICALLY:

Back to my exercise (power walking regularly)
Back to eating on a Weight Watchers plan
Alternate days with core/hand weights (15 minutes of one or the other daily)
Stretch before bed every night (I already stretch in the shower in the a.m.)

A moratorium on alcohol and Diet Coke until all this settles in, and then, only on points.

MONEY

We have serious financial problems. I have found a short term fix, but the long-term plan requires a couple things... NONE of them SEEM to be in my control, but the one that most closely is is my writing stuff... This is behind the FRANTIC polishing... I want to have 3 books READY by mid year (two earlier: one for ABNA, one to query) and I plan to GO GO GO until I sell one. I ALSO am concentrating on WRITING stuff I am pretty sure is salable—I want to get my name established so this stuff all gets easier.

RELATIONSHIPS

I finally made peace with my mom (mostly) at Christmas... but newly fixed things are fragile, and I am neglectful in the best of times. I need to keep working at it... I also need to work at the one with the hubby and the childings...

And I should be more cognizant of my other friendships, too... I LOVE my friends, but I can be downright SCATTERED about attention...

I guess those are the biggies, aside from the writing stuff a couple days ago...

These definitely seem doable goals. Hope you reach all of them, Tami.

Good luck with these goals for 2011!!! I think setting yourself realistic plans is a great thing!! I wish you all the best with working out your relationships with your family too. I tend to bury my head when it comes to trying to get on with my mum but I'm at that age where I'm able to appreciate her more from far away! LOL!!

Take care

Relationships are so difficult at times, but those that are work are, at least in my opinion, usually most rewarding. These are wonderful endeavors to have. All of them. I will share with you one bit of wisdom regarding back pain: Do NOT, under any circumstances, do pilates. I know they're "good" for core strength, but one wrong move and you're crippled. Needless to say if you already have a back problem that exercise will only exacerbate it. Like. For realz. Was told that in massage school and then learned it when I ignored that lecture. Good luck, Hart. I'm rooting for you and wishing you a very happy New Year. :)

Sex. Definitely the cure to all of the above ;)

As a fellow back pain sufferer, I'm with you. I need to lose weight, get in shape and eat better. I did get rid of the caffeine (it flushes vitamins and calcium out of the body), but I drink a ton of Sprite....

I'm glad KimberlyLoomis mentioned pilates. I have those....and now I'm giving them to my nephews wife!

I, too, am scattered when it comes to relationships.

I'm going to cheer for us both. The whole year. Good luck with your writing and I hope you get a bestseller out of all of them.

Here's to a breakthrough new year-for all of us!

Oh, back pain. PLEASE, start doing what you need to do for that. I'm facing my second back surgery. Go, go, go. Don't stop I'll be cheering you on.
I can so relate. I LOVE my friends and I need to pay more attention to them. *hangs head in shame.* Good luck with your goals. I'll check on your progress. I know you can do it. :)

Probably most of us share many of these same problems in one way or another. Relationship issues. Weight issues. Issue issues :) You have good plans. Stick to them.

Happy New Year!

Thank you so much everyone!

Jenny-yeah, distance helps some, other than the fact that it means on VISITS it is a time overdose.

Kimberly-WOW! Thanks for the advice! I'd actually had pilates recommended, though the woman was FIRM that only in a class with a certified instructor (she forbid me from getting a DVD)--that instructor thing (or actually the money for a real class) is what has kept from from giving it a try.

WC-Yeah, I think tea will be my sub... I won't give up my coffee, but the diet coke has both the caffeine AND the Asparteme... the latter makes me crave bad stuff...

Ciara-URGH on bad backs! I am NOT to a surgery point--I work for a pain doc--my end of it is research, but I DO hear all the horror stories--I really do think most of my problems could be dealt with with stretching and my exercise ball if I'd just USE it... oh yeah... and if I lost 50 pounds...

Admirable goals! Fitness is #2 on my list this year. (Writing is always #1). The move to Georgia has not been positive in this regard. Georgians are far are too nice to guilt someone for having put on a few (ha!) pounds; whereas I could always count on Californians to point and snicker - a great motivator.

Here's to a happy, healthy, successful 2011! Happy New Year!

Hart, your visuals today have made me very happy...
Control what you can control and don't worry about the rest.

I'm with you on the exercising! Weight isn't as much a problem as what I have is no longer toned.

Thanks for that. (I'm pretty sure you know what I mean.)

:)

Best of luck with the resolutions, good lady! Though...don't you think you're being a little drastic with the alcohol cutback? Hopefully you won't start that until after tonight, ne?

Happy New Year!

I worked on relationships in 2010. A weekly babysitter and date night helped us out more than I would have imagined (even lost 7 pounds - must be the sex!).

BUT I could copy and paste the rest of your list onto my own. Thanks for saving me the time!

And I thank you for the correct eye candy. Good luck with the goals and the Weight Watchers and all that.

See--I know how to keep the boys happy now and again! *giggles*

VR-I moved from Oregon to Michigan a decade ago, so I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. In oregon it isn't the 'pretty people' thing it is in california, but EVERYBODY is active. In Michigan, my formerly fat bod looks suspiciously AVERAGE and there isn't the same kind of pressure.

Simon-my alcohol issues are totally tied to my calorie trouble. I will still splurge now and again, but if I am serious about the weight part, it needs to be far less often.

Erica-we should probably make a point of date night, too--we can't really afford 'out' but the kids are gone enough we COULD make a point of watching a movie together or something (though there is little overlap in taste)

AURIGA! Thank you for venturing into this strange bloggy world!

And thank you ALL for such supportive comments!

bahaha. *is silently with the boys on this one..*
(although, she's a little TOO skinny..)

anyways... distractions aside. i like your list.
i kind of cringed in the "i know exactly what you're talking about" sort of way at all of the back pain stuff.
i've been trying to make a point to stretch more, but when you're already not flexible, stretching is no fun.
oh yeah, and that big giant ball thing that sits under my bed... yeah, i should work on using that too.

anyways. good luck with your 2011 goals!
i'm SURE you are going to sell your books this year!
*sends positive thoughts to michigan*
(maybe they will follow that thing i put in the mail today... :D)

I hope you meet your goals next year! I'm trying to lose weight as well. I might try Dr. Oz's diet. We'll see.

Hey Hart - These goals are great! Good luck with them.

(Hart - there's a weekly poker league here. It's free to play, just costs to eat/drink and that's optional. So, that's where we usually go on date night. See, something completely unlikely [me playing poker in the back room of a bar] can be just what a person needs. Good luck).
