Fine friends, my land line didn't work from March to August. Internet still worked, so because of how AT&T bills, I paid my bill (the late fee is exorbitant)... until this month... when instead of a payment, I sent them a BILL, with a letter explaining the refund that was due to me.
They proceeded to shut off my home internet. I decided while I raise my stink, it is maybe time to take a blogcation, as I can VISIT blogs from work (though on the light side, as I have a few big deadlines), but I can't take the time to write and post from work. So I will be back MONDAY (though if service isn't going, I may only do a few a week), and the next few days... if you wonder what I am up to, I am yelling and screaming at the idiots who run Asshat Telephone and Technology.
I will give a shout if it works. My next bill to them will include my TIME for waiting on the phone for all the failed service calls, my cell phone bill, and the new DSL thing we had to buy. If it goes to a 3rd letter, I am suing them for pain and suffering in an amount adequate to make up for lack of sugar daddy.
What can YOU do?
NEVER use AT&T.
Spread the word that they STINK.
Complain about them TO them and elsewhere.

I don't believe they have holdings in Canada, but many of those companies are cut from the same cloth. We're actually losing over-the-air TV (as in, accessable through antenna) so these dicks can have more frequencies available for their cel phone service.
So sorry to hear that :( I'm having a financial flip out at the moment too so I can sympathize. Hang in there!
I won't use AT & T just for you. :) And it's not available here for landlines and their cell service in our rural area isn't very good.
oh god.
I hate them.
all of them.
Yes - send them most NAKED bills!!! Hah!! :-)
See you soon and hope it all gets sorted - sorry that you have to contend with such nonsense from a big bad company! Not NAKED at all! :-( Take care
x
I like Kitty's idea about the naked bills! Get 'em, Hart.
Oh, I LOVE that you submitted them a bill. I hope somewhere in the dark recesses of the corporate miasma it will hit paydirt.
AT&T does suck! I had them for years. I wanted an iphone so bad, but I didn't want to recommit to another contract. I travel so much and half the time, no bars. None!
When Verizon came out with their iphone, I was estatic. And jumped the crappy AT&T ship.
I really hope you get that mess worked out - and some money back.
Wow, that really sucks. I will boycott!!!!
I've been unimpressed with AT&T for my cellular service (I have an iPhone) but it is so darn unattractive to switch to Verizon because I'm grandfathered into all of these nice data plans that are no longer available that I don't feel I could ever get the same elsewhere. I'm stuck.
Good luck, TH! I've had my own little battles since we moved here w/DirecTV. They did end up sending me this inexplicable check for $35, so here's hoping YOU WIN!!! ((squeezes))
Yeah, I had the same thing in 2010... Except that we were trying to get rid of the land line as it cost quite a lot and we never used it, but because the three providers on the net didn't talk to each other, we ended up without internet while keeping the land line... (We cancelled our subscription with Tele2, the telephone company, who sent a message to KPN (the privatized version of what used to be PTT), the owners of the cable, who notified XS4All (our internet provider and a semi-division of KPN) that they were cutting our line, after which XS4All warned us we'd be losing the internet, after which we cancelled our cancellation of service with Tele2, who was supposed to cancel everything with KPN, but didn't, with the result that XS4All cut our internet the day after my birthday as THEY hadn't cancelled their pro-forma request with KPN as Tele2 never bothered to notify everyone we'd cancelled our procedure... We then dropped Tele2 a second time, as we didn't need any of it any more, but they kept billing us for 6 months afterwards until we proved to the bailiffs that we had, in fact, cancelled... After this fiasco I just got everything from KPN, who owns the physical cable, and be done with it... It's not the cheapest, but at least they stand a better chance of talking to each other...)
Love the "Asshat." I'll spread the word.
They can't charge you for services they didn't provide. Probably better to talk to whoever's in charge, document and/or record every conversation, and if that doesn't work get a lawyer to contact them on your behalf.
You should see how they're trying to screw congress in the T-Mobile deal.
Evil Empire.
Hart,
Oh, I am so sorry ... I can really feel your frustration in this post! I have only heard complaints about them. Our ISP is our cable company, and I have no complaints what-so-ever. It costs $39.99 for high speed and hasn't gone up in the 3 years since we have signed up. We don't even have a home phone anymore.
Take care, and have a good weekend. I hope that you get everything worked out immediately.
Kathy M.
Good luck. I'm thankful we don't have AT&T or a land line.
Oh, that's so annoying! We're having a similar issue with a big power provider here in the UK. We honest;y cannot understand how they can be so incompetent!
Oh man, that SUCKS. Good luck getting it all fixed. D:
AAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Primal screams are good for the soul. And they scare the sh!t out of asshats. Give it a try, I swear you'll feel better. As for me, I'm off to spread the non-love for Asshat Telephone and Technology like a good little minion. ;)
Smoochies, Your Tartness!
Good for you for sending them a bill. We have problems in the UK with service providers who offer you the moon to persuade you to sign up and then, once you have signed up, can't provide even a half decent service. I get so angry about it and I feel your frustration.
Good luck. I hope it all works out well for you!
And all this time I thought they only hated me.
AT&T is the WORST to deal with. After having a run in with their cell phone service operators, I totally switched to Verizon. I remember one day after sitting on hold for THIRTY MINUTES, I was disconnected. I called back, waited for someone to answer, then banged the phone on the desk several times to vent my frustration.
I warn anyone that will listen about them. I can't believe they still have as many customers as they do with that type of abysmal service.
