Erm... Or something. It's probably good I don't speak a word of Chinese, because that would be even less intelligible.
So what am I on about?
Yesterday, which I don't remember the word for in Spanish (ayer?), not that that matters, since this has nothing to do with Spanish except in my ability to mangle a title... but yesterday was the Chinese New Year... and THIS YEAR is the year of the SNAKE (specifically, the water snake)!!! (get it now?)
So what does that mean for everybody?
Well that depends what sign YOU were born under and how compatible that is with snakes. As a horse, I'm not particularly hopeful, as snakes are known to spook horses... but so is pretty much anything small. I got thrown from a horse once because of a rabbit. Wasn't a particularly scary rabbit... just one that moved fast and startled the horse.
This is a broad band water snake: you don't suppose he gets WiFi? |
So wishing you all a magical, amazing year!!!
In OTHER News...
I finished BIG EDIT for What Ales Me (my first shake at editing a book, I do small edit with notes, BIG EDIT where I address all the big things the notes pointed out, then SMOOTHING). So today I start smoothing. I have one reader lined up, but if anybody else is interested in a developmental read of it (micro-brew, Portland based)--developmental means NOT line editing, just notes of the big stuff—what is working, what isn't, spot any plot holes or missed opportunities..., I'd love another reader or two. Ideally it will be ready for that in maybe 7-10 days.
I have a HUGE HUGE exciting thing happening to a friend. But I can't tell you. *ducks*
(I will shout as soon as I can)
Two days left to first ABNA cuts... so that's something...

Hooorah for you big edit finishing!
GOOD LUCK with ABNA!! I have fingers and all bendy bits crossed for you!)

I once had a Chinese astrology reading printed out for me. In big letters at the top it said, "According to Chinese Astrology, you are a dog." - I thought that was a bit harsh! :p
Snakes definitely have a bad wrap in the Western world from the whole "Adam and Eve" thing. In the East they are a horse of a different color--which ain't easy for a snake.
Thanks for the informative post and singularily interesting Spanglish!

Still not a fan of snakes. Then again, if water moccasins came in your yard, you wouldn't like them either.
Congratulations on the big edit! Now for a Smoothie...
Did you do ABNA this year? Good luck!
Happy Chinese New Year!
I'm a horse, too, but I love snakes.
Felix Snakelianos de Ales y Abna!
"This is a broad band water snake: you don't suppose he gets WiFi?"
That busted me up!
Happy Chinese New Year. Quick story: After my daughter was born we were at a party at the Chinese Embassy and discovered she was born on cusp between year of horse and snake. Everyone encouraged us to go with Horse because it was considered a much better sign :)
I am an Earth Snake! I didn't even realize we were back in a snake year.. *oops*
I'm a rat. So glad we don't have snakes in NZ! *shiver*
Congrats on the editing. Maybe it will rub off on me.
Best of luck with the editing. It can be a long, slow, process...yet so rewarding when you're finally done :)
Oh sweetie! Good try with the Spanish. And yes- ayer is yesterday. :)
Awesome news on the editing. I know it is a pain in the zorch but at least you are almost there to the finish line. :D
I know the secret! :D *smiles at fellow conspirator*
Big edits ... that;s big! I don;t think I could do that, although I do read an ARC now and then and offer feedback.
looking forward to hearing of your friend's BIG news!
Here's hoping for your easy entry to the next ABNA level.
I'd be happy to give ALES a read-through, Hart, especially since I enjoy reading anything you write. The only trouble is, I'm so anal about punctuation etc. I might not resist scribbling in my annoying little symbols, even though this is a big edit.
Very happy news!
