Xenophile

I am truly a lover of the strange... Oh, I know Xeno, as a prefix, generally actually refers to 'unknown' even though it MEANS strange...

My first exposure to xeno, as a prefix, was in a linguistics class in college, and I fell in love with it... as a word, as an idea. One of my cheap thrills when I was taking that class was making up words (oddly, many of them really WERE words, just words I hadn't known) but the BEST word I thought I came up with was Xenophilophobia... Fear of loving strange things... (it could ACTUALLY be applied to fear of the one-night stand... fear of loving strangers)...But I am NOT xenophilophobic... I am just a straight xenophile...

So what do I love that's so strange?

case the first... the Aye-Aye... he is so strange, but I LUUUURVE HIM!

And then there is the leafy sea dragon... WICKED!!!

And then there is Mr. Star-Nosed Mole...

Now look at this fellow. He is a Vietnamese grasshopper of sorts... very cool...

And this is called durian fruit.  I'd totally eat it.

And it's a darned good thing I'm a nudist, or I might endorse monstrosities such as this...

So there you have it... my strange-love... It may have originated in the strange love of word creation, but I know there are those of you out there who get that...

And THIS is the best strangeness I've seen in a long time... Llama font!

And finally, it's Thursday, you know what THAT means!!!

*smooches all around *

A fantastic range of freaky creatures, loved the Vietnamese grasshoper especially.

Some of the critters were gross but the worst as the dress. LOL

I almost used this word - I thought it meant love of strange lands and customs though. I jumped there from xenophobe but then I went to x-chromosome. I love strange too - that's why I love you!!!
How are ya doing after your transportation into the strange land of being lauded?!

teehee! Yay for the nakedness!

Grandpa-very cool!

Jan-I think that is more officially the meaning--a love of new and unusual experiences, including places and cultures...

I think I'm surviving...

That mole is ugly.

This is one neat post. What a group of strangeness. The only one I was familiar with is the durian. Yum and so nutritious. I like your weirdness and could get used to some of them.

i know a few people who'd tried Durian fruit. general consensus is that it has a taste/texture that makes you want to vomit.

But the leafy sea dragon is just plain cool.

Wow, there are certainly some strange things out there. Of course, that mole might think the same thing about us... if it could see past its nose.

Excellent choice for X, Hart, and great pictures!

and a Depeche Mode fan, yes?

Hooray for naked Thursday! About the only thing on that lineup I liked was the dress. And I know that doesn't surprise you~ :D <3

That dress was scary! (sorry, LTM) :)

Please tell me you're joking about that dress. :)

The Vietnamese grasshopper is a new one for me. He looks like he's in battle armor.

Cool strange things, and awesome job on your own word!

Since you enjoy strange things, you just might like my post today ... weird sights that have shown up in pictures that I've taken.

Take care,

You sure about the durian? It's the one and only thing Andrew Zimmer of Bizarre Foods WON'T eat!

Strange means interesting, indeed.

You should have seen all the lemmings we had in the mountains last week. They were all over the place, when they realized that spring was here and the sun was shining ... unfortunately lots of them got run over by cars when they tried to cross the roads >:)

The mole is really disgusting looking, but I'll tell you I really love the leafy sea dragon. Always have. Did you know that sea horses and their cousins like the sea dragon have a VERY hard time surviving in captivity?

L. Diane Wolfe said...

Look at the critters! I luuuurve the first one, too.

Jo Schaffer said...

Oh, the mole's nose it the stuff of nightmares...

(= I like strange things too. Especially strange words. (= xenolacunaphile??? Haha!

The grasshopper is the cooliest. The others are kind of gross, but strangely intriguing.

You have some strange loves, my nudist friend...but I think that's what endears me. As for Llamas....well, dauntless is only one word I'd use :) Thanks for another great post and more insight into your crazy (which again, endears me, ack).

Cheers :)
