Q is for Passed!

I know... I have never been one to keep my Ps and Qs straight, but yesterday I explained good and well, so I am not going to repeat myself (much). If you want the full scoop, yesterday is where to find it...

I spent last evening PANICKED!

You see, my daughter will be Sixteen on Monday, and last night was... her driver's test. She's had her permit for a year now—Michigan has a graduated license system, so they take driver's ed, get a PERMIT and then spend at least 50 hours driving with a parent in the car. That parent was usually me, as the other one can be persnickety. Certainly he is patronizing. Perhaps he is even a pest. It's a good thing he has a cute pompi. *shifty *

So Primary Progeny and me went... with all the paperwork to the parking lot... of the WRONG CHURCH (my bad—oops—I get something in my head sometimes and am sure I'm right and don't doublecheck) There were certainly palpitations, but we managed to call little brother and get it sorted and the person performing the test was a prince. He nodded, had to get the poles back out (the cones hadn't gotten put away yet, so we had that going for us)

Primary test was parking, parallel and pulling in backward. Then primary progeny DROVE... She performed like a pro. I think she only had one point marked off but it was because some pompous prick pulled into her lane—she went into the next lane (surely full points would have been given had she just popped him the bird)-but the point takage was about turning into the wrong lane (I don't know—avoiding being hit seems like a redeeming quality)... but students can have up to six point off before they fail to pass... so she PASSED!

When we got home I called the insurance to add her, and now I need a Percoset.(which is not remotely like a marmot).

You know what... I'm PROUD. She worked her tail off for the Lifeguard Certification that she earned last week, and has been so diligent and cautious (if perhaps a bit bossy) learning to drive... and next week she will be 16 and perhaps I'm a bit pensive... she is growing up.

Love you NoNo!

I taught a couple of my kids how to drive cuz they just weren't social enough to learn from their older friends.

Seriously, I think the ones that learned from friends are better drivers.

Some rules; you just gotta learn from your peers :)

Congrats to both of you for surviving hte learning process . . .

Sounds like as well as being Proud of Primary Progeny, you should be Proud of your Parenting :)

congratulations to you both. You sound so calm, I don't know how you do it. It's worth a huge celebration. I like the idea of the graduated testing system.

Thank you so much ladies! (all ladies this morning--that is sort of funny) I'm not THAT calm. We only have one car, though, so she will be an errand runner more than just out there driving around.

And I also love the graduated system. The one she gets Monday is a level 2 which means there can only be one other young person in the car (other than relatives) and she can't drive after 10 except for a school or work event.

wonderful news - it is a bit like not being able to wait until they graduate from a crawl to a walk though - now you have to keep things on higher shelves! I didn't know you could get a licence anywhere before you're 16. Here you have to be 16 before you get your learner's permit - you pretty much have to take driver's ed courses though or the insurance is through the roof. Our German student is taking driving lessons. He'll get his licence and go home and not be able to drive until he is 18. But then he'll be able to start immediately so that is why he's doing it. With the autobahn having no speed limit perhaps they are smart.

Definitely a milestone for both you and your daughter!

No wonder you're confused -- Daughter's Sweet 16, Lifeguard test and driver's license all within a week. I'm shaking thinking about it.
Congratulations to both of you!

Congrats! Teaching a child to drive is extremely stressful! My son also has his driver's license and lifeguard certification. Now, they can drive to their new jobs - I hope.

Oh, sure, Leigh--mock the naked chick...

Jan-In Idaho it is actually 14--that is where I learned... I think though, greater population density makes the delay a good idea, and yes, the Autobahn is scary, I thinkg...

Laura *snort* Yeah, teenaged daughters are embarrassed about naked mothers...

Mary-I know, right?! It's been CRAZY!

Lisa-on the up side, new privileges offer a nice tool for negociating and making her act responsibly! (and we've been ALL OVER the no texting thing)

Mary-Oh interesting! Fun to learn we've got a matching set!

Katy-absolutely! Proud and NERVOUS!

Congrats to Thing 2!

I'm actually quite scared when I think that Dale could be driving this time next year. He has enough trouble staying on his feet, never mind a set of wheels. *shudder*

I'd like to get lifeguard certified, but Pam Anderson refuses to return my calls. She is the only teacher that will do. No, congrats to your gal though. That's awesome.

P is for Passed! Hooray for you and your Progeny or maybe Progidy. Maybe Progidy seems like a strange words to use but that's absolutely what it seems like to someone who had to take her own driver's test three times! Not saying it was me, of course ;) just saying I've heard that sometimes can happen to people.

You have every reason to be Proud today!

Your baby is certainly growing up. But she has a wonderful role model to look up to so she can become the sweet and caring woman her mother is.

I can't even imagine having a six year old. You certainly know a lot of P words. erica and I can't keep the letters straight for this challenge, either, but um, apparently you do it on purpose. it's embarrassing to admit we teach elementary school. The plan was to do U on Friday. QRU...

My eldest girl is 13 and it's so scary to think she'll drive one day - and don't even get me started on letting her near lifeguards. *is now sweating profusely and needs a marmot of her own*

You know, I think driving instructors just like to take points off for things they shouldn't. When I took my first test, the guy had me pull into a parking spot out in the parking lot. He, then, told me to just pull on through the parking lot and park up at the building. I asked him if he was actually asking me to pull through the parking space since, you know, technically, that's illegal. He glowered at me. Yes, an actual glower. He took points off because I backed out of the space before driving up and parking at the building.

Congrats! My oldest gets there next year.
