Is a Writer who isn't Writing a Writer?

Spring is time for these little fellas around here...
Hallo fine peoples! It's first Wednesday and therefore the monthly meeting of the Insecure Writer's Support Group... Sadly, I'm not feeling very writerly these days. My mom attention is demanding a lot of me, which is ironic, since my kids are both adults now, but there you have it. I've also developed a real life group of friends so I do more social stuff, which can only be good, right? But the bad habits are the worst of it.

So the question for May is: Does this season inspire you to write more than others, or not?

Yeahnono. Spring makes me want to be outside. And if I take my computer outside I get a glare. But JUNE has been BuNoWriMo for me for many years, so THAT might get me going. Probably means I should spend May plotting, eh? And plotting I can do in a notebook, which I can take OUTSIDE!!!

Spring does give me a bit of a push to write more. Even if I don't do my writing outside, it's still warm enough to have the windows open in my house. For me, that makes a very pleasant writing environment.

Good luck getting back to writing! Summer is always distracting ;-)

Good luck with plotting and with BuNoWriMo!

Having a great group of friends and doing social things is a great reason not to be writing as much. What does the "Bu" stand for in BuNoWriMo? Cheers - Ellen

A real life group is healthy for you. Yes, you can take a notebook outside. That's why I've always hand-written my first drafts.

There's always times when more important things take priority and that's fine. Hope you have a successful month of plotting!

I can relate to that title.
Plot, woman, plot! Plot like your life depends on it. (Motivated now?)

I haven't written in a long time, but, yes, I'm still a writer...a struggling writer. :)

You know, sometimes we just have slow seasons and that's okay. I try not to sweat the small stuff and take stock in the bigger things I'm accomplishing. Otherwise I go insane.

A writer first becomes a writer in the heart. The rest, that falls outward and hopefully on paper or screen, is icing on the cake.

Yes, you are a writer.

When you say you should spend May plotting, for some reason, writing doesn't come to mind.

I didn't do much writing at all the first part of the year. I'm back to it now, amidst chaos of remodeling. So yeah, you're still a writer. BTW, plotting counts as writing! Good luck with BuNoWriMo (had to look that up ;-))

Take it easy and be gentle with yourself. Times are rough at the moment for you, but they will pass. Just be gentle with you.

Real life friends, yay!! So much writing inspiration, lol.

Have a great week Hart.

Inspiration comes in fits and starts. I usually don't feel very 'writerly'until struck by an idea.

I'm like you, Hart -- I want to be outside when the weather is gorgeous, so when or if I write it might be in the evenings only. Or in the heat of mid-afternoon.

And good for you for having a social life! Mine has slipped away too much and that's what I have to spend time on, for a change.

Outside is good. I know the glare is a challenge but I position myself and my laptop carefully in the shade, and usually find the peak of a cap shades my eyes enough to see my screen. I'm determined, because I just love sitting outside in the summer months. And yes, scribbling notes with good old fashioned pen & paper is a good option too. Plus beer. Natch :)
