Do Gods Get Insecure?

Hallo fine peoples!!! Welcome to Insecure Writer's First Wednesday... gratuitous that it falls on a Wednesday... because I have a new obsessions. Lemme esplain... No. Is too much. Lemme sum up.

The series I've been most excited about since Game of Thrones has started...

Neil Gaiman's American Gods.

This is a stellar cast, a stellar director, Gaiman himself is involved in productions. And it is BEAUTIFUL! So what is there to be insecure about?

Well see... to survive, Gods, like writers, need believers. If they don't they start to fade. And when that happens sometimes they can get a little desperate...

I'm feeling like right now my god-level relevance is about Hermes. I'd much rather be Dionysus. Or Athena. Wine or wisdom. I'll take em. Instead I'm a messenger with popularity issues.

Which God are you?

Oh, yeah, right... and the question for the month... What is the weirdest/coolest thing you ever had to research for your story?

The one I had most fun with was probably the Roanoke Ghost stories. I tried to trickle then in backdrop for my cozy mystery series. Sadly, I only got to do three books, so they thread didn't go as far as I wanted.

Okay, now go see some other insecure people!

Some people are mentioning finding American Gods. As I understand it, it is Starz in the US and Amazon Prime in other countries. I believe Amazon Prime in the US can also do Starz as an add-on (so you don't need full cable pricing?)

Jayzus I'd love to be watching that series! Loved that book! Hmmm...which god would I like to be? Easy - Mercury! Mercury with a cane - yes, I've graduated from the walker! Yeehaw. And it is snowing here. Snowing heavily.

It sounds like they are doing right by that series.

I pretty much have to be my namesake, Diana the Huntress.

I've heard lots of good things about this show. Might have to check it out at some point.

Sounds like an interesting show. Will have to look for it. As far as your series goes, there's nothing to say you can't pick up the threads later and continue. It's what I plan to do to my trilogy.

Ooooo! That series looked so tempting and now you've pushed me to binge watching. The concept is beguiling and the cast . . . what can I say?! Hah, I work as a writer and as a legal assistant. The messenger, of course. Awesome on Roanoake! I had to settle for indulging in the Horror Story version.

Hmm? I've got to see if I can get American Gods here in Mexico. Me a goddess? Well, how 'bout a muse, Thalia for comedy and pastoral poetry...whatever the heck that is. :)

Now I've got to start watching that! Oh wait...but it's on Starz and we don't have that. Grr... I hate it when that happens. It sounds so good. (And GOT ... can't wait!)

Haven't watched that one. Basically, if it's on a cable network, shows get more racy than I can stomach. If my kids can't watch it, I don't want to be watching it.

I haven't watched that one yet.
Are there Ninja gods? Maybe I'll just stick with being Alexander the Great.

Have not seen the Gaiman show nor have I seen Game of Thrones. I don't keep up with many new shows these days.

These days I feel more like the god of tiredness. I never seem to get enough sleep it seems though I kind of hate to sleep because I feel like I'm not getting enough accomplished when I do sleep.

That sounds great. Gaiman is also adapting Good Omens, his collab with Terry Pratchett. Can't wait for that one! Being Hermes might not be so bad, as long as people are still receiving your messages.

I've been a member of the group for over a year, but this is my first month to participate in the monthly blog. I was scrolling through blogs to see who to go visit. I have to admit - the name of your blog sucked me right in. I had to dash here to check it out.
The Roanoke Ghost stories? Is that back to the old Roanoke mystery of ages ago? Or Roanoke Virginia?
I'm curious because I live in Roanoke Texas. A town a bit smaller than the VA one. I think we've hit a population of 6,000 now LOL

Yeah, I'd like to watch it. I should just get the book. Not much time for any reading or viewing lately.

Hi Hart - Gaiman is good - his creative mind has certainly jumped the box ... glad you're enjoying the series - cheers Hilary

I am being offered American Gods for free, I think on Amazon Prime. That is one of the perks of Amazon Prime. I dropped cable completely and am saving that $70 a month and watch shows on Prime and Netflix.

I read that book a while ago and though I was enthralled through most of it, the ending didn't do anything for me. I'll wait to hear what people are saying before I check out the show.

I'm finally getting through all the seasons of Game of Thrones, and now another excellent series starts up? Sigh. And I was hoping to catch up on The Americans and other shows. At the rate I'm going, I'll catch American Gods five years from now.
