Pondering Helicopters

So I was awakened yesterday morning to helicopters... Helicopters do something to my imagination that I can only attribute to my writing obsession...

Once upon a time I lived in Portland, and every news station in town had a helicopter. I mean... I still noticed the helicopters, but they were up there every day checking out the traffic, so it just wasn't that big a deal.

Here in Michigan it is a different story.

The local helicopters are the UM Life Flight helicopters... they are navy with the maize M on the side and always meaning they are trying to save someone's life... these cause me awe... I am moved when I see them.

Any OTHER helicopter (other than game days—game day we get the news ones from Detroit) but any OTHER day and any OTHER helicopter puts me in an apocalypse frame of mind. Oh, I know... you're all saying, that chick sees apocalypses (apocalypsi?) everywhere... and you'd be right. I also see apocalypses with power outages and when I meet those nutty super-planners with basements full of survival supplies. Or when I hear about epidemics. Or chemical warfare... pretty much that is just where my brain goes.

Of course it isn't the ONLY place my brain goes... I see murder set-ups everywhere, too. I saw a father's day ad last week in my Groupon mailing that included a Father's Day DNA kit... um... yeahno... THAT is going to result in MURDER. How can it not? The options as I see it for that gift are:

“See you bastard, you ARE my father. Pay up.”

and

“See you bastard, you're not my father. Get out of my life.”

Maybe I'm a cynic, but I just don't see that gift going well...

So I was wondering how the things all of YOU write about influence where YOUR brain goes? Do you see strange things you didn't used to see? Jump to conclusions no sane person would?

Srsly!?!!? Is that Father's Day Kit thingy for REAL?!?!? LOL!! Oh my stars!! Totally random thought - I was reminded of this classic line from the fab Lace - "Which one of you b*tch*s is my mother?"

Happy Monday! Take care

It makes me smile that you think about murder so much now. :) I'm exactly the same way...always startles my family and friends when I mention murder out of the blue.

I hear you! My "What if?" questions tend to go to the dark side. The other night, my husband and I watched a movie and there was a scene where all these birds flew at the house, crashing into the windows etc. Later that night, "something" hits the window outside our bedroom... :o

A DNA kit for Father's day? The mind boggles and goes in all sorts of directors.

Those are nifty colored copters. Our rescue helicopters are red in NZ.

That would be directions not directors :)

Yep, and like you, it tends to be murdering possibilities that I flip to. Why, oh why? It has been ever thus for me. It makes walking the dog in the woods a crazy time.

My husband and I spend a great deal of time planning each others murder. We have our favorites. That's normal, right!?

We also come up with unique urn ideas for our ashes. Oh dear, have I over shared, again. . .

Happy murder day, sorry I mean Monday!

That's a really bad gift idea.

Well, we have a lot of helicopters here, but occasionally i see the ones spraying to fight mosquitoes and they swoop and fly low to the ground, so you definitely take notice of those.
And i'm right with you on jumping right to an apocalypse. Ever vigilant and all that

We rarely see helicopters here. Lots of AF planes, but no helicopters.

You know those days when suddenly there's like eight helicopters hovering nearby. It's all I can do not to jump into my car and try to figure out what's happening. And some part of me is always worried its an apocalyptic scenario in the making.

Oh, I cannot say that my thoughts on murder and mayhem are in any way out of the norm. However, the body disposal business start-up really pushes the boundaries.

Waste management, indeed.

My neighbors keep to themselves.

Helicopter are quite interesting. We live close to the hospital/medical university, and the yellow and read paramedics helicopters fly over our house regularly. I've been flying on a helicopter only once, from small heliport in the north out to a seismic vessel in the Barents Sea. It was cool, but somewhat scary when we landed on the the ship and had to leave the helicopter with the rotor running >:)

I basically can't watch anything on Investigation Discovery, National Geographic, or SyFy without going crazy. My friends are like "you watch documentaries?" How can you not? They're full of brilliant ideas!

Seriously, there's now a father's DNA kit? The weird times we live in.

My brain goes in so many different places it's hard to keep track of it. I try to keep it on a leash, but it still gets away from me. But I think it's little noises that get my attention -- strange bumps or hiccups in the night that shouldn't be there, so I listen and wait to hear it again, and then realize I'm just being paranoid.

LOL the Father's Day DNA kit is brilliant as a gag gift, but I can't see that not causing trouble Hart.
