And So My Break is Ended

I had two glorious weeks off. And now all that's over...

It's funny. I am normally a person who really loves beginnings. And there are THINGS I like about starting a new year... mostly the resolutions and plans, but ending something I like (break) to start something I don't (the daily grind—which come to think of it would be much better if there were more grinding involved) doesn't quite qualify. January is my least favorite month.

I think this is Michigan's fault. I used to hate February most because “come on already spring”, but January's average high in Michigan is 14. It is just the merciless cold. That simple. That at the inevitable diet, but that is my own darn fault. I think I'll like January a lot when I finally retire, as I plan to spend it somewhere warm, and will start the diet when I get home... But as it it, yesterday (Saturday) was freezing rain and today (Sunday) it is snowing and if I have to go outside I need to wear a lot of clothes... You KNOW my opinion on clothes...

But since it can't be avoided, maybe it is time to just embrace the fabulous...

My Oregon Ducks Won the Rose Bowl!

This means Saturday they play in the National Championship game against Ohio State who I have A LOT of practice hating from living in Ann Arbor and having the Wolverines be my #2 team (Go Blue!).

My cleanse and diet:

You want to hear all the details about this, don't you? You are dying to dig into the calorie and sit-up minutiae that is my life... No? Okay, won't bore you... well maybe once a month, but it is too soon. Suffice it to say I think this was the sort of kick in the butt I needed. Hopefully in due course there will be less butt to kick.

Downton Abbey is Back!!!

I finally managed to find the Christmas Special in parts on YouTube. Frustrating that On Demand doesn't have it, but I'm sure there was some decision behind that... But the Sunday night show watching with my Couch to Keg peeps is one of the things I really look forward to. Downton Abbey, and then when that ends, the wait for Game of Thrones isn't too long (and we will start Outlander about that same time—that was our fall one this year, but the season continues in April)

Speaking of Game of Thrones

It is finally near enough (a mere 3 months) that I can start freaking out there, too. If you are a book reader, I've discovered a YouTube channel that does a lot of 'predicting from text': Radio Westeros. I think they do a great job and I think they've uncovered several likely things, mostly identities of people who seem to be bit players at the moment. It is too spoilery (or possibly irrelevant) for show watchers, but I recommend it if you've read the books twice or once but want huge surprises (I don't think one read of these books can possibly be remembered well enough to have all this be “AHA!”--it would be more “wait, what?”

But my writing, as predicted with my need for fitness obsession, is in the back seat... I will meet my ABNA goal, but I am not sure how much else... Ah well... baby steps, eh?

So how is YOUR beginning going? Productive? Spinning your wheels? Or a bit of a mix?

A bit of a mix, New Year, new hopes for a more healthier me, writing and publishing still key, but major changes truly wished for, maybe planned for. Still working out the details!
Details, details, details, just minor really! :)

14 is cold!! Hope things warm up a bit there (although I know that, even here in NC, Thursday is supposed to be ridiculously cold...I think a high of 32 then).

Good luck with the exercise and the writing! Happy New Year. :)

Now that's cold.
Was happy to see the Ducks win.
I enjoyed my break but time to get back into action.

I'm spinning my wheels so far this year with most of my goals. Especially that healthy eating one...

Best of luck to you!

I never watched Downton Abbey, but I am interested in seeing what all the fuss is about. :)

My beginning is going good. A little slower than I thought but this month will prove to be very productive by the end of it.

I hope you have a successful 2015!

GO, DUCKS! :-) I am a terrible sports person. I only care about the cheerleaders!

January is hard -- all the good holidays are over for months! But for us down here in Louisiana, there is Mardi Gras! Yay.

I've had a Victor Standish novel half-written for ages now. He's beginning to get upset as his spirit is trapped inside a panther's body in the realm of Faerie!

I hope that the Ducks win, and your January glows with temperatures above 20! :-)

The beginning of the New Year has not been productive at all as far as writing goes. My daughter just got married Jan. 3rd, which took all of my time and energy. But hoping to get back in the game this week. Happy New Year!

Go Ducks! Too bad you can't figure out a way for them to diet for you :)

Welcome back!

My sympathy on the bitter cold you're enduring. We just got over a nasty one here, and I hated waddling around in my heavy coat and muffler and hat and boots and gloves and everything else. I mean, I like clothes, but I have this thing about moving very freely in them.

I want you to win ABNA this year. And I want Downton Abbey to give me some happy scenes and no more sudden deaths.

ha ha ha! Cold enough for you? Well, if not, come to Labrador. And we don't get spring until June! But hey, I'm not going to carry on about that cuz even if it is way colder way longer than Nova Scotia - it is a much better cold. Dry and today we had a blizzard and Ron couldn't go to work (which he was jonesing to do cuz he has stuff he wants to do there!) As to beginnings, I'm doing well. I'm doing a lot of Buddhist practice - about two to three hours a day, sketching and painting a lot and even writing! I've started a short story collection based here in Labrador. Well, I've done one and had feed-back and revision and am half way through number two with ideas for several more. I got another crit back on Bright Angel and now it is ready to go to the mentor who said he could take it in january. Yay! On the fit front - shag it. I'm still finishing off holiday candy that I made and I'm going veg everyday but one a week (and the fella doing the opposite so that's good) but I can't quit meat and sweet in the same time period. Keep on keepin on, tartlette, it is never over as long as we stand up before the bout is called.

Happy New Year Hart! I'm looking forward to more Game of Thrones. I'm actually reading the first book now. 12 years after release. Weird, I know. best wishes to you and yours for the new year.

January is not my fav month either. All that goal planning and resolution making is intimidating.

Oh my, I've really got to start reading GoT. I got hooked when I had HBO for one season.

Happy writing and fitness training Hart :)

I spent 11 straight Januarys in Michigan... now I am wondering what the big fuss is tomorrow night when it is supposed to drop to 26 and you'd think people were preparing for Armageddon. Enjoy winter when you can and congratulations to your Ducks--they played well the other evening.
