The Lost Art of Blogging

HAVE YOU SEEN ME LATELY!?

Comes to the name: Confessions of a Watery Tart

Identifying Features: Silliness, periodic wisdom, man butts

See... I have somehow LOST my blogging mojo... and I can manage one side or the other of it... EITHER writing one OR reading and getting around... but I am having some trouble syncing up the two.

In fact I've seen some blogs recently talking about the diminishing returns on blogging. They didn't call it that. I did. But that's what it is... even the SAME effort isn't getting the same response (let alone those of us that have been falling down on the job).

But I DO have some news, both progress and upcoming events, so maybe I'll go with THAT.

Progress

Book 5 is with my copyeditor (a week later than I planned, but I was wise enough to never advertise a release date, so it's good)

Book 6 is ready for revision for 2nd readers.

Book 7 is DONE and first revisions done. Just some revisions to enter and then send it to first reader.

Book 8 is NEARLY done, but I am not revising until 9 is written.

About that... I have a strong inkling that this serial will be 12, rather than 10... it's all good. That allows the collections to be 4 books (400 pages) a piece, which to me makes a $2.99 price a VALUE (if a $2.99 book is made of 3 X $.99, then you pay three cents EXTRA for the set... this way they get a book FREE if they buy the set)

I think this ALSO sets me up reasonable to 'release in clusters'--when 5 is released the first week of December, I SHOULD be able to do 5, 6, 7, and 8 all 3 weeks apart, then have a gap for my Cozy book release, then do the last 4 clustered.

I am about at 36K for NaNoWriMo, though spinning my wheels a bit, as that break to edit goofed me a bit. I will finish...

COMING:

Saturday:  My friend Crystal Collier released her book Moonless last week, and Saturday is doing a guest blog!  Come see her!!!

And NEXT WEEK, there is a huge BLOW OUT--a GIANT giveaway for Black Friday. There are FOUR $50 gift certificates and MANY books being given away--you definitely want to get in on it!

So that's what's up... maybe my mojo will fall back in line in December, but for NOW, featuring a few fun things seems to be what I can manage. Anybody else having trouble?

Hi Hart .. it sounds that you've achieved a great deal by being away from the blogging world - good luck with finishing ALL those books - good strategy I'd say ..

Enjoy and there's lots of books and giveaways around .. always good to know - cheers Hilary

That is amazing progress, Hart! No, we can't do everything...we'll be here when the writing tapers off a bit. Good luck!

You've been busy writing - really busy! That's cool. Wouldn't stress the mojo loss. I'm pulling back a bit myself to work on a new book.

Nice! You are making tracks, woman! When I grow up I want to be like you. ;)

Wow! You have been soooo busy, and have accomplished so much in a short period of time, Hart. I am very proud of you.

Well, blogging takes a LOT of time ... both on our own posts and then the return visits.

When I began working in March, I lost my energy for blogging. I didn't have energy for even cleaning my house for months. Now my energy has returned, but I am still not blogging. My passion for blogging has been replaced by a passion for my job (teaching preschool), and that is where my energy goes.

I even have a childcare blog that I thought I would make into a cool resource, but I can't even get going on that.

Facebook is so much easier, though certainly not the same as blogging. I am glad that I get to see some of my blogging friends on there, including you.

Hugs, and congratulations again. I have a lot of books to buy now!

I've been dragging a bit this month when it comes to blogging and visiting, etc. I'm still doing it and all, but NaNo's been the priority. I find that things like comments etc tend to slow down in November and December anyway when most people are busy not only with NaNo but also with holidays, etc.

Good work on NaNo! Keep going! :)

It's called combat fatigue, Hart. Look at all you are doing -- and achieving results, which is even better. I literally cannot give my books and audiobooks away.

Blogging is secondary. Writing books that sell is your dream. Go with it. Have a great Thanksgiving. :-)

I've noticed the blogosphere seems so quiet lately. I was wondering if it was just that I'm seeing at east coast time, but I don't think so...

So excited for you with all the fabulous writing you're doing.

I'm with the rest of the commenters - you're accomplishing an amazing amount (seriously, releasing four books that close together??? Incredible). Be a writer first, and a blogger second, I think.

I think a lot of people are cutting back on blogging and that's okay. I am too so I have some writing time. But I think it's the best way to make friends and get support for all your great news. I miss so much on Facebook and Twitter. Hope you'll keep up the blogging and just cut back.

Hm. If that ain't blogging I don't know what is. Which reminds me that I somehow slipped out of time. I owe a review.

...do you suppose that the checkered cloth so conveniently pressed into service by that naked fellow might actually contain the ubiquitous picnic ants? Poor fellow!

You will always have blogging mojo, but as a writer you had to make a choice -- books or blog? I'm just glad your books are coming along very well.

You have to pull back some to be able to write. I confess, I can't sync writing time, working, family/ranch and reading everyone's blogs. Something has to give, y'know? I grab time where I can.

Congratulations on have *clusters* ready to go!

Great topic. I haven't blogged for about a year and in that time I have completed a novel (well, almost) and published three short stories in a e-magazine.

Now that I am facing the query process, I might start blogging again because I think agents expect their authors to have a solid web presence, but the time it takes to blog well . . . I always wonder if that time would be better spent writing.
