My Apocalypse Plans: A Listing Blog Hop Entry

Bish Denham is celebrating five years of blogging (Congratulations!) and so is hosting this fabulous blog hop whereby she is asking us all to make a LIST (I love lists). Check out her page for her list of participants!

My OWN List? What I plan to do when the Apocalypse Happens

1) Gather my people (family and friends who are interested)
2) Pack supplies (durable food, sleeping bags, basic tools, protective weapons--what we can carry)
3) Head WEST (population density is a problem)
4) The other side of Lake Michigan steal an all terrain vehicle
5) Seek shelter in old farmhouses (where stocks of home canned goods and practical things abound)
6) Collect people along the way who offer skills (hunting, medical skills, plant knowledge, building skills, mechanical skills)
7) Find someplace easily defensible and with a potential food supply (mix of farming land and fishing or hunting) in Idaho or Montana
8) Build defenses and set up alarm system
9) Just Survive Somehow (some of you may recognize that one)

Anybody else have their apocalypse plans in place? I will be expanding Wednesday if anyone wants more detail.

Now go look at everybody else's lists!!!

  1. Heading west makes a lot of sense! Sounds like you'd do okay in a disaster. :)

  2. Ah, if we stay here in Labrador we will have done everything suggested without going anywhere. Excellent news. And Edgar Cayce sId to come here when the world ends. The lack of food will be a bother later but oh well.

  3. Good plan! Count me in :)

I assume we can bring our pets, yes? Though how I'm going to manage three cat carriers along with everything else is anyone's guess...

  4. Thanks for listing with me, Hart! You might want to add weapons to you list! Depending on the kind of apocalypse, just put me at the center of the destruction. I don't particularly want to hang around and have to try to survive in the aftermath.

  5. I recognize #9!

It sounds like an excellent plan. I think you'll do all right when the apocalypse gets here. :)

  6. Those are wise plans. Hunting and farming would be a necessity if everything went to hell.
Thanks for participating in the blog hop!

  7. Yes, head West. So many open areas with no people. It's way too crowded on the East side of the USA.

  8. I know #9! :)

And you need a Daryl with a crossbow.

  9. "Collect people along the way" *giggle*snort*

  10. Nice list. Yes to #'s 7 and 8 because old farmhouses wouldn't last long.

  11. Yeah. We talk about this. We're stealing horses because the gas will run out and we're heading for someplace a little warmer to survive the winter. We'll settle near a river but out of the flood plain. LOL.

  13. These are practical plans. Although when you start heading west stop way before you get to Los Angeles. This place will be scary if all hell breaks loose. Personally I'm heading East when I can.

  14. Sounds a little like The Walking Dead, seasons 1 and 2. Good ideas though. I'm stuck in the overpopulated east, but maybe I could make it to Canada.

  15. I don't think you can plan to survive an apocalypse, only to thrown one.

  16. Add me to your list, that is if writers are worthy of saving. Do I have a skill? Oh dear, that leaves me flummoxed! LOL
Guess I'll be fodder for the zombies / marauders or whatever. Oh well, we all serve a purpose!

  17. I'm Eugene; I have no real skills to save me, I'll survive by getting with people who need cleaning and such done :)

  18. You might enjoy my list of survival stories -- maybe you've already read some of them? :)

  19. Well, if that "Halloween Asteroid" (size of the Empire State Building, going at 70,000 miles per hour) slams into the planet instead of narrowly missing us as is being reported -- no plans would work! Ouch!

My plans? Delivering rare blood to over-worked hospitals as normal. Die manning the walls isn't so bad a way to go, is it? :-)

  20. lol! This is an awesome list! If you end up in Montana, can I join in your group?

  21. Your plan sounds solid. Me? I'd probably stay behind to hunt the zombies.

  22. Okay Hart...now you need to turn your list into a book. I'm not planning to run away from the Apocalypse. Might miss too much!

  23. Yet another reason I'm happy to already be living in the west! I'd head into the mountains.

  24. Cool list! You've thought about this very well... Or else you watch a lot of Walking Dead :D (Yeah, I caught that JSS—looove that show.) I don't really have apocalypse plans, but I think I need to start making them. I live on an island, a really small, really dry island, and the day the boats from Venezuela and Miami stop coming, we'll be out of everything. E-VERY-THING.

    I'll start planting tomatoes tomorrow.

  25. UNLESS IT'S A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. Then get a houseboat or cruise boat and hole up there. Safest place to be. =)

  26. Sitting in the middle of Europe I doubt I'll survive the Apocalypse. But if, I'd try to keep my family as close as I could (that'll mean walking 120 miles North to get to them in the first place).
