Romans

And in case you don't read Norwegian, it says:  "Caesar says we can switch to sandals, but we have to keep the skirts."

This just tickles my cross-dressing fancy to no end, and I will give you three guesses (though chances are you only need one) as to where this came from... Oh, sure, I know three Norwegians, but only one passes me comics on a regular basis

This of course REMINDED me of my very favorite depiction of Romans in EXISTENCE....

This scene is hysterical.  Haiw Caesaw!

And I thought you needed some You Tube Links to my favorite scenes:

The Stoning

Biggus Dickus

And the one all writers should love best: Romans Go Home

  1. I so love Life of Brian! It is brilliant. My favorite scene is the 'What have Romans ever done for us' scene.

  2. Thanks for the Friday morning smiles, Hart!

  3. Ted-that is my favorite, too--I probably also should have included the 'but what have the Romans done for us?' bit...

    Thanks, Elizabeth!

  6. Alex-it's been AGES since I watched History of the World. I tried to get my son to watch it a while back, but he resisted.

CaH--Oh, I didn't translate... that would be Mari... as to Asterix comics... see... my comic reading is mostly limited to what people send me. I love them, so I have no clue why I don't seek them out... but somehow I only get them when a friend passes them to me...

  7. That comic's great! Can't wait to share it! Love the Bigus Dickus too."He has a wife, you knoww..." And the Hebrews on the ground laughing at him "Woger? Do we have a Woger in custody?"

  12. Love me some Monty Python, but I'm alone with that quest in this house. How did that happen?

  13. Will--definitely love the lisp: Woderwick?

    Thanks everyone!

Sarah--the double cross-dressing particularly pleases me... men dressed as women dressed as men *snort* Though Shakespeare did if first.

Carolyn--how many in your household? Hubby tolerates it, but my kids have been indoctrinated from a YOUNG age. Son had an "I fart in your general direction' t-shirt as a 2nd grader.

  15. "You are the true messiah, and I should know I've followed a few!"

I'll be quoting all day now. Awesome.

  16. :) Ah, Cruella. What a nicely chosen comic for you!

  17. The "Romans go home" scene is absolutely my favourite. Latin might be easier to learn if we all had to do it at swordpoint. ;)

  18. LOVE the scene where the Roman Centurion (Cleese) corrects Brian's ungrammatical anti-Roman Latin graffiti.

  25. I should clarify... the cartoon came WITH a translation. Mari and I established today that when I try to fake Norwegian, I come up with mostly Swedish: Bork, borgen borgen ingen flingen... only ingen is actually a Norwegian word... (pretends the rest was Swedish because mari told me it was *shifty*)

    Glad everyone enjoyed them!

  26. Hart - I married a Norwegian 13+ years ago AND moved to a 99.5% (estimated) Norwegian community. As long as you use the phrase "uff da" once a day, they'll take you in.

  27. Erica- that is probably where my grandma moved FROM (or near)--she was from northern Iowa, but I know the big pockets are in Minnesota. In fact my Norwegian writing friend (the original one--Mari--there are several more now) had a sister living in the town my family came from when I first met her (Bergen, for the curious)--you also much be used to the Sven and Ollie jokes? That was what my cousin picked up on his family reunion visit (because he was a boy and got the GOOD conversation, apparently)
